Wow, what an exciting weekend our little family had! Not because of the crazy weather changes. And not even because of the big football game. Nope...pretty much all of our excitement came from a little bundle of love named Hayes! (Oh, how the times have changed since my days in college, huh?)
For starters, Hayes's tooth count is now up to three! Typically, the order of emerging baby teeth is - bottom two teeth, top two teeth, and then the teeth directly next to the top two. But in true Hayes fashion, he decided to break the norm and get his top left lateral incisor next. Check out his newest pearly white...and the bulging gums that prove the others are not far behind!
The next big event was that our family managed to get over six hours of glorious sleep! Since coming home from the hospital, this is by far the longest stretch of sleep we have all gotten...and oh, how we all needed it! As most of you remember, Hayes was suffering from horrible night terrors shortly after coming home from the hospital. Well, those night terrors turned into a growth spurt as his little body desperately tried to gain all of the weight it had lost. And as if those two things were not quiet enough, teething just had to be thrown into the mix too. So, I am sure you can imagine how beautiful those six peaceful hours were, and I am hoping that there are more and more nights like this in the weeks to come!
Obviously, teething and sleep are both pretty exciting, but there is something way bigger and way more important that our family experienced this weekend. Drumroll, please..........Hayes required no supplemental oxygen! Yup, you read that right - no O2 at all! As you all know, we have been slowly weaning him off the oxygen since coming home from the hospital, and he has done great every step of the way. However, we have been kind of nervous about taking the final leap and turning it off at night. We have learned that blood-oxygen levels always drop while sleeping, and we also knew it would be hard to monitor these numbers since Cody and I would both be asleep as well. However, we took the leap on Friday night, and Hayes has done great! There have been a couple of moments where his numbers drop too low and his alarm goes off. But each time, Hayes quickly wakes up and is able to get back up on his own. (Well...with Mommy and Daddy silently cheering him on from the doorway with oxygen in hand too!) Because of this, we are continuing to watch his numbers very closely...and we still have oxygen on hand at all times. Our pulmonologist has warned us that even something as little as a common cold could set us back and put him on continuous oxygen in no time at all. So, please continue those prayers and positive thoughts for strong, healthy lungs...and a nasal cannula free face!
