BIG Boy Bed

Slowly...veeery slowly....we have begun making the needed transitions in order to prepare for our baby girl.  And although most of these changes have been centered around all things pink and ruffles and bows, we had one major transition for our sweet Hayes too.  It was time to say good-bye to his little bitty baby crib and hello to his BIG boy bed!  In order to make the transition go as smoothly as possible, we really tried to involve Hayes as much as we could - from testing out mattresses at the store to setting up the bed in his room to getting all of his bedding ready for his first big night.  And I have to admit that although I was a little anxious about this big change, the smile on Hayes's face constantly reassured me that everything would be just fine.

Before we tried to get him to sleep in his bed, we made sure that he was really comfortable just being in it.  We sat and talked in it and read books in it, and we even showed him how to climb in and out all by himself.  So when his afternoon nap came, we were pretty confident that he would do alright.  We decided to stick with our usual naptime routine and put him to bed like it was no big deal.  And guess what?  Hayes went right along with it!  He went to sleep without a peep and took the longest nap that he has in quite some time.  It was perfect!  The past two nights bed time has gone flawlessly too, so I really think that I can say this transition was a complete success.  Knock on wood though because we just put Hayes down for night number three a little while ago...

The BIG boy bed!

Complete with all of Hayes's little friends...

...that just get tossed aside when it is time to climb in bed.

Good night, folks!
