Three Months Old

Yet another month has managed to fly by, and Hayes has somehow transformed from a fragile little newborn into a chubby baby boy in the blink of an eye!  Although Cody and I can easily see how much he has grown, Hayes is having a difficult time coming to the realization that he no longer meets newborn status.  Especially when it comes to sleeping.  However, we have been working very hard on the transition from a bassinet in our bedroom to the big boy crib in his room!  So far, we have made it as far as the pack'n'play in our bedroom, but we are hopeful that he will be sleeping in his own room by the time he turns 13.  On a more positive note, Hayes has made the full transition from taking bottles of breastmilk to being exclusively breastfed.  This is a major step for a baby who has overcome everything he has...and for a mom who used to count every milliliter that was put into his little tummy!  Overall, Hayes has really flourished this month, and here are a few of the milestones that he has met to prove it...
  • His head control continues to get better by the day.  To work on this skill, we are having to get very creative in the positions we put him in though, since his O makes tummy time a bit of a struggle.
  • Speaking of positions, Hayes no longer likes to just lay and snuggle on your chest.  He now loves to sit up on your lap or bounce on your knees.  He is so interested in the world around him, and he wants to be sure and get the best view possible!
  • His visual skills are sharpening as well.  He stares intently at even very small objects, and he loves to watch them as they are slowly moved in front of him.
  • Hayes loves to show off how strong he is!  He reaches for objects and grasps them so tightly.  He even found mommy's hair the other day...ouch!
  • Rolling over is another skill that we work on daily.  He can now roll from both sides to his back which is right where he should be developmentally.
  • Just recently Hayes has begun to laugh, and it is the cutest and sweetest sound that has ever been made!  I have to admit that he is a very tough critic though, and his laughs are reserved for only the funniest of things.
  • Hayes has really discovered his voice this month...and he loves to use it!  He grunts almost constantly, converses with mommy in coos and gurgles, and lets the whole world know if he is unhappy!
  • Most importantly, Hayes has such a great demeanor.  He is full of smiles and joy...just like his mommy and daddy have been for the past three months!!
